Imagine stepping into your home: the air is fresh, the water sparkling clear. It’s not a daydream, it’s a reality within reach thanks to a new wave of green technologies dedicated to improving the very elements that sustain us: air and water. We’re talking about innovative solutions that tackle everything from pollutants lurking in the air to tackling potential water shortages to come in the near future. Let’s take a look at a few companies who displayed their newest products at CES 2024.
Airthings
One of the worlds leaders in monitoring indoor air quality for homes and businesses unveiled two more products to their product portfolio; Airthings Renew, the companies first smart air purifier, and Wave Enhance, a compact battery operated indoor air quality monitor. Both items were conceived as part of Airthings larger mission to reduce new-use plastics with the Renew being comprised of 50 percent recycled plastics and the Wave Enhance being comprised of 70 percent less plastic than previous models.
The Renews’s functionality incorporates a HEPA 13 filter that removes 99.97% of particulates, and an additional carbon filter that helps to remove gasses and odors from the air. Airthings suggests that the air purifier can fully cleanse a standard size bedroom in 10 minutes and can be effective in any room close to 525 sq ft. The Renew also integrates with an app that will allow users to view air quality trends, re-order filter, and control the device form anywhere.
The Wave enhance features five indoor air quality sensors along with a high precision NDIR (non-dispersive infrared sensor) sensor to measure carbon dioxide levels. The built-in sensors can also detect airborne chemicals (VOCs), temperature, humidity, air pressure, ambient noise and lighting. The design of the Wave Enhance makes it versatile in set-up, and allows for seamless connectivity to the Airthings app.
Mila Homekit-Compatible Air Purifier
When it comes to home connection apps, Samsung has ‘Smart Things’, Amazon has Alexa, Google has Google home, and Apple has Homekit. With those technologies already in place, it would make more sense for existing appliance manufactures to build their devices in partnership with companies that have existing hardware and software that already has an existing database of users. Not only does it cut down on cost but it also ensures that the company has a pre-existing boost in their marketability range. Mila is one company who has taken this route by offering the new Mila Air 3 which offers homekit integration for all Apple product users.
Genesis Systems WaterCube
The WaterCube was presented to the public earlier this month by a U.S. based company called Genesis Systems. The company has taken the liberty of trying to help solve global water scarcity in sustainable way. According to experts at Genesis Systems, there are tons of un-captured water in the air especially in warmer, more humid climates. The Water Cube can be used to extract water vapors from the air and condense the vapors into drinking water, making it the world’s first air-to-water generator rated to produced 100 gallons of water per day. The more humid the environment, the more water that can be produced.
