As CES 2024 (Consumer Electronics Show) became one of the most talked about events since the start of the new year, all eyes and ears were focused on witnessing an array of innovative technologies from spatial reality glasses to robotic excavators. Big or small, each product introduced a ground breaking concept that could either protect or enhance human lives within the world we live in. While all tech isn’t necessarily econ-friendly in both it’s function and design, there are a few who will at least try to operate under the environmentally conscious category called ‘green tech’. Green tech is a broad term that encompasses any technology that aims to reduce the negative impact of human activity on the environment. This includes everything from renewable energy sources like solar and wind power to sustainable agriculture practices and green building design. Lets take a look at some of the most notable green tech contenders at this years show.
Jackery
Jackery is a global leader in selling solar generators for the purposes of offering green energy to everyone, everywhere. In 2016 the company launched its first outdoor portable power station and have went even further to develop their own solar panels, resulting in over 3 million units being sold worldwide. this year Jackery debuted the Solar Generator for rooftop tents and their collection of solar generators. Their most powerful power station (Jackery Explorer 3000 Pro), comes with the option of supplying power directly to a home’s circuit breaker through a transfer switch. The portable nature of the generator line-up makes it extremely attractive to those who travel by RV’s or pick-up truck campers, lessening the need for vehicle idling while parked for extended periods of time.
EcoFlow
Another hot contender in the generator space is a company known as EcoFlow, founded in 2017 by a group of engineers. Ecoflow is actively working to help sail the world into an undying era of portable energy solutions, solar technology, and smart home products. This year at CES, the company debuted its first ever whole home backup power solution with up to 7200w output power which is said to be be good for up to a week’s worth of power, according to the company. The set up included the usage of two Delta Pro units which can also be paired with additional smart generators that they also offer on their website. The Delta units can be recharged at regular EV charging stations worldwide.
EcoFlow decided to up the ante by releases three additional gadgets for off-grid living convenience. These included the first robotic lawn-sweeping mower (The Eco Blade) that uses virtual boundary and and automatic route planning technologies. The second product unveiled was a portable fridge freezer (Eco Glacier) with an integrated ice-maker and battery capacity to run for up to 24hrs. Rounding out the list, the company introduced consumers to the Ecoflow WAVE 2, which is basically a portable air conditioning solution that offers bother heating and cooling options that can be controlled through its own app.
Savant
To close out the list of the most notable products riding the clean energy wave of CES 2024, Savant (an energy tech company), has found a way to customize energy utilization at home within the palm of you hands, if you have solar panels and an external battery hook-up that is. As more homeowners and home-builders infuse solar technology into the design of both new and old homes, the option of controlling the energy flow throughout these structures is steadily becoming more essential as the world sub-combs to inflation and harsher weather patterns that affects energy usage. Savant achieves this task by having the home owner insert smart nodules into the home’s existing circuit breaker, giving Savant software access to your home’s grid through sensors and controllers built into the nodules.
In practice a homeowner can use an app to see when the energy is going and be able to tun circuits on or off from anywhere at anytime. Sure there are other applications that can do similar things however, Savant takes it a step further by allowing customizable modes or configurations for directing or redirecting power. For example if you wanted your home to rely solely on solar power that is has stored up, then you could set it on ‘Eco Mode’ which will enable you to take your home completely off the grid. Savant’s app programming also comes with a ‘Storm mode’ which ensures that your solar battery is fully charged in advance of a storm, and a ‘power outage’ mode that can reduce your home to operating just the bare essentials to support longer lasting battery.
